September for me is like the beginning of a new year. There are a few things I like to do to prepare to achieve my goals of the year and successfully balance my personal and professional lives.

Before you get back to work and school, make sure to:

  1. Assess your progress. Compare your notes with your resolutions set at the beginning of the year. Have you made progress? What obstacles or challenges are you experiencing? Why? Learn from your mistakes and adjust accordingly. It is important to eliminate what needs to be eliminated ie: unrealistic goals for the last 4 months of the year. 
  2. KISS. Keep it super simple. Do not overload yourself with goals and resolutions…3 goals for the last 4 months of the year are more than enough. Make sure you focus on progress rather than quantity. If you achieve one big goal, it is better than 5 small ones. 
  3. Focus on change of habits rather than on the goal. So many of us focus on achieving goals but to achieve goals, you need to adopt new habits or routines. So focus on successfully sticking to your new habits rather than on the final goal which may seem overwhelming and too big to achieve for now. Focus on being committed and consisted and watch your progress. This is what really matters.

BONUS TIP: Think of what results do you want to have by Dec 31st and reverse engineer. Think of what steps and actions you need to take in order to reach those goals. This is a way that will help you get more concrete and better visualize your goals.

Remember, anything is possible and you can make your dreams happen only if you are willing to do the work.
